Scientific Project Assistant (must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree) for a 38-hour/week, two-year position at the Linz Institute of Technology Open Innovation Center, LIT Robopsychology Lab

The acceptance of AI and algorithmic decision systems is limited by their inability to “explain” decisions in a way that is understandable for humans. Researchers and policy makers are therefore calling for Explainable AI (XAI). However, how to
achieve the goal of XAI in different usage contexts and in view of different target groups remains poorly understood. The funded research project “HOXAI: Hands-on Explainable AI” will compare the interpretability of various visual explanation
strategies of machine learning algorithms and investigate the relationship between explainability and user acceptance (perceived fairness, trust) in controlled experiments. In the frame of this project, a postdoc position at the LIT
Robopsychology Lab will be vacant from autumn 2020.

Job Duties:
• Conduct independent research, design empirical studies as part of the project “HOXAI: Hands-on Explainable AI”

• Publish scientific findings in international journals and present at conferences
• Cooperate and coordinate with the interdisciplinary project team
• Co-supervise project-related master theses
• Assist in completing research grant applications

Your Qualifications:
• The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree in Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Communication Science or a related discipline
• The successful candidate should demonstrate an interest in the following areas:

o Explainable AI

o Robopsychology

o Human-Computer Interaction

o Quantitative Methods

o Scale Development

• Expertise in designing experimental studies and performing data analysis
• Possess excellent scientific writing skills
• Independent and well-structured way of working
• Team spirit, communications talent, enthusiasm

What We Offer:
• On the basis of full-time employment (40 hours/week) the minimum salary in accordance with the collective agreement is € 3,889.50 gross per month (14 x per year, CA Job Grade: B1)
