Job Title: PhD Position in mHealth and Brain Imaging
Contract duration and extent: 3 years, 75%, Application deadline: 31st August, 2026, Start of the
position: 1st October, 2026
The University of Salzburg invites applications for a PhD position within the Doctoral School of
Brain, Behavior and Health (DSP BBH) to conduct cutting-edge research in the interdisciplinary
field of psychology, sport science, and neuroscience as part of the HappyMoves project. The
HappyMoves results from a Collaboration of Jens Blechert with Markus Reichert and Susanne
Ring-Dimitriou and project investigates the associations of physical activity and affective well-
being in everyday life, with a particular focus on interindividual differences in these associations,
for example, regarding active lifestyle history and brain structure. Advanced methods from brain
imaging will be combined with ambulatory assessment (i.e., Ecological Momentary Assessments,
passive sensing). Both existing datasets (P10k cohort study, DOI: 10.33594/00000060) will be
reanalyzed and new data will be collected.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct independent research in the field of brain, behavior, and health sciences
• Contribute to the implementation of the research project HappyMoves
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences
• Collaborate with colleagues
Requirements:
• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, sport- and
exercise sciences, or related fields
• Strong academic record and research experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Proficiency in statistical analysis (e.g., using R) and data management
• Experience with neuroimaging (e.g., fMRI, EEG) and ambulatory assessment techniques
is desirable
