PostDoc position in cognitive/environmental psychology

Applications are invited for a 100% (TVL-13) post-doctoral researcher at
Heidelberg University in the interdisciplinary project that examines the
psychology of fishers and fishery stakeholders in a threatened socio-
ecological resource system, the Lake Victoria Nile perch fishery
(MULTITIP). The post is initially limited until May 2023, with the possibility
of being extended for an additional 2 years subject to funding. The
intended start date is as soon as possible.

This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an interdisciplinary
research team (including behavioral economics, fishery biology,
mathematical modeling, environmental and cognitive psychology) in a
large project. MultiTip investigates the cognitive processing and
understanding of the Nile perch fishery at Lake Victoria. The project
includes considerable fieldwork in East Africa to assess stakeholders’
perceptions (mental models) and how these influence decision-making.

This work will contribute towards identifying barriers and solutions to
conservation issues, which will likely inform regional policy and contribute
to the natural resource management literature. Besides working with our
partners in the field (including key policy makers, NGO’s, and fishing
communities), your work will be guided by an external advisory panel of
scholars from Columbia, Princeton, Carnegie-Mellon, Wageningen and the
Stockholm Resilience Centre. More information is available at
www.multitip.de.

The core tasks associated with the position are:

 Collecting data on stakeholders’ perceptions and beliefs across
Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania in collaboration with local research
institutions;

 Conducting data analysis;
 Presenting results at international scientific conferences;
 Publishing project outputs in international peer-reviewed journals;
 Liaising with local stakeholders for the development and

dissemination of the studies.

management

German would be of advantage.
