The IRTG2773 is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is a structured international graduate program established as a cooperation between the Technische Universität (TU) Dresden and the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience at King’s College London. It will investigate risk factors and pathomechanisms of affective disorders to improve prevention, early detection and treatment. Within the unique environment of the transCampus, young scientists are trained in the field of translational research on affective disorders.

PhD position (f/m/x)

The position (salary level 75% TV-L E13) is for three years.

The IRTG offers positions in the following project:

Early intervention in the prophylactic treatment of bipolar disorder using smartphone-based ambulatory assessment.

To leverage the potential of remote monitoring, we will focus on the following components: We will assess the efficacy of EMA in predicting response/remission/recovery and new episodes in patients with BD validating the potential of EMA for future personalized treatment and monitoring. This will be enabled by leveraging recently finished data sets, especially the randomized, multicenter BMBF-funded “BipoLife A3 Smartphone Study” (Mühlbauer et al. 2018) and the BipoSense study (Ebner-Priemer et al., 2020). In addition, we will undertake systematic reviews or analysis and might design and implement a qualitative study comparing patients‘ experiences, views, participation and adherence.

Candidate should fulfill the following requirements:

• keen interest in mental disorders
• interest in real-life monitoring (e-diaries, digital phenotyping) and it´s statistical modelling
• an above-average degree in medicine, psychology, neuroscience or a related field
• good written and spoken skills in English (at least B2) and German (at least A2)

What we offer:

• comprehensive project supervision by experts with complementary background (experts in bipolar disorders (Emanuel Severus) and mHealth (Uli Ebner-Priemer))
• a well structured curriculum comprising behavioural and developmental neuroscience, child/adolescent/adult psychiatry, clinical and cognitive psychology, psychoneuroendocrinology, genetics/genomics, computational science, digital health
• six-month research rotation to King`s in London or TU Dresden, respectively
