The Leibniz Institute for Psychology Information (ZPID) in Trier (Germany) is an internationally renowned research support
organization in psychology and a member of the prestigious Leibniz Association.

in the process of a strategic expansion directed at meeting these needs to become psychology’s one-stop research
service center. Current as well as future ZPID research areas and services are based on and guided by the values of open
science and open innovation.

Scientific Information Manager (m/f/d)
(salary group TV-L E 13, 70 %, limited for 2 years)

Preferred start date is January 1st, 2021 or later.

Duties and functions:

With this position as a scientific information manager at ZPID you will become part of a broader consortium for the Social, Behavioural, Educational, and Economic Sciences (KonsortSWD) concerned with the development of a national research data infrastructure (NFDI). The aim of the NFDI is to systematically manage research data, provide long-term data storage, backup and accessibility, and network the data both nationally and internationally. KonsortSWD’s mission is to strengthen, widen, and deepen the research data infrastructure for the study of human society. This effort is to be user-driven and
should address the needs of its research communities. KonsortSWD will provide researchers and research data centres with the tools and services they need for managing and sharing (new) sensitive and non-sensitive data in compliance with the FAIR principles. Interdisciplinary cooperation in the consortium is based on close coordination between the partners and use-driven service development. NFDI is initially funded for five years by DFG.

Against this background, it will be your task to foster acceptance and usage of research data centers (RDCs), like the RDC at ZPID, and, more generally, data sharing by the scientific community. To this end you will set up an online information platform. This platform will promote competencies of research data managers by offering courses and making teaching material from research data centers (RDCs) available.

At the same time, relying on best practices provided on the information platform, you will support the RDC at ZPID by conceptualizing and implementing semi-automatic workflows for documentation, ingestion, and deployment of research data.

Regularly publishing results originating from your work in scientific journals and discussing results within the relevant scientific communities, e.g. at conferences, is expected.

Your profile:

  • Degree in computer science, information science or other relevant discipline
  • Relevant experience in setting up web based information platforms
  • Advanced knowledge on metadata and related markup languages as well as persistent identifier
  • Interest in actively contributing to an interdisciplinary research data infrastructure for the study of human society, i.a.
  • by collection and integration of discipline-specific courses and teaching material, evaluation of courses and teaching
  • material with regard to their usability, and coordination of RDC services with other RDCs involved in the consortium
  • Independent working style
  • Project management skills
  • Good communication and team skills
  • Very good command of written and spoken German and English

Optional qualifications:

  • Experience with the process of acquiring third-party funding
  • Basic proficiency in working on the Linux and Unix command line
  • Experience with PHP and SQL, possibly frameworks (e.g. Symfony)
  • Knowledge of package management und code versioning (Git)
  • Experience in usability research
