Research Assistant (PhD student) in Experimental Psychology

Research A ssistant
The position is offered for a period of 3 years , if no former times of qualification must be considered .
The start ing date is as soon as possible . The position is part -time ( 65 % of reg ular working hours) with
salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Ge rmany (TV -H
E 13 , 65 %).
The position is part of the DFG -funded research project „The influence of the outcomes on predi ctive
learning“, which investigates the underlying mechanisms of the „outcome predictability e ffect“. One
focus will be whether effects of unpredictability on the outcome’s motivational fe atures mediate the
learning bias . A second whether the learning bias is a product of reasoning pr ocesses and higher -order
inferences. For this purpose, we will combine causal le arning and classical conditioning paradigms with
measurements of eye movements and choice behavior.

The position is limited to a time period deemed adequate for the completion of a doctoral degree. As
part of the assigned duties, there will be ample opportunity to conduct the independent scientific r e-
search necessary for the completion of a doctorate. The limitation complies to § 2, 1 W issZeitVG.
Formal requirement is an excellent degree (Masters, Diploma or equivalent) in Psychology or rela ted
field (e.g. cognitive science). In addition to a proven interest in experimental psychology, in partic ular
the study of learning and/or motivation, and experience in conducting psychological experiments, the
successful candidate needs to demonstrate a good proficiency in general research methods and t he En g-
lish language. Furthermore, the abilities to work both independently as well as in a team and high pro b-
lem solving skills are expected. Existing knowledge about associative learning theories, theories of
choice behavior and decision -making and/or pro gramming skills (in particular Matlab) are advantageous.
The eligibility should be documented in a motivation le tter (1 page max), in which you may refer to
prior experiences, a thematically pertinent thesis, student research assistant positions, etc.
