We invite applications for one PhD position in a DFG -founded project on “Age Differences in
Language Comprehension” that is part of a CRC Information Density and Linguistic Encoding

This project investigates language comprehension in a noisy environment . We are specifically
interested in the question whether olde r adults can maintain language comprehension even in a
noisy environment when the linguistic content is highly predictable . Comprehension difficulty i n
elderly adults can be due to perceptual problems with hearing problems and/or to cognitive
problems. To clarify this, we will use an ERP approach to determine age differences in the
neuronal underpinnings of early perceptual and later language processing .
We are seeking for 1 PhD Student ( 65% TV -L E13 ). Candidates for this position should have a
master 's degree in psychology , psycholinguistics or a related discipline . Experience with
psychophysiological methods, such as ERPs, as well as knowledge about statistical analysis
techniques is expected. As experiments will be conducted in German, some knowledge of the
German language is desirable as well as background knowle dge in cognitive and developmental
psychology.
