The Leibniz Institute for Psychology Information (ZPID) in Trier (Germany) is an internationally renowned research support

Product Owner & Developer for Semantic Search Portal (m/f/d)
(salary group TV-L E13, 100%, limited for 4 years)

Preferred start date is February 1st, 2022 or later.

Duties and functions:

The successful applicant is expected to design and implement a semantic search portal PsychPorta as product owner,
created in close collaboration with other information specialists at ZPID. PsychPorta will integrate bibliographic information
from ZPID’s PSYNDEX database, as well as data from external bibliographic databases and several ZPID products (e.g.
PsychArchives, PsychOpen CAMA). Aim and scope is to create a data warehouse and interface to access these different
types of information at a single source, allowing a semantic view of the available information (e.g. papers, authors,
research topics). The system will closely integrate with knowledge graphs/ontologies.

To create an optimal user experience while searching these triple-based data structures, initial design,
implementation/programming and empirical evaluation of the PsychPorta back and front end will be required. You will
team up with a colleague supporting you with backend work on PsychPorta.

The publication of results originating from your development and conceptual work will be expected.

You will collaborate closely with a team of computer scientists and information specialists and will participate in the full life
cycle of development, including technical design of whole products, coding, testing, rollout and empirical evaluation of the
final products.

Master’s degree or higher in human-computer interaction, computer science, information science, software
engineering or a related discipline
Basic understanding of knowledge modeling and knowledge graphs as well as associated software tools
Basic understanding of semantic technologies and standards, e.g. RDF, SKOS, SPARQL
Fluency in PHP and JavaScript. Experience with common PHP frameworks such as Symfony is a plus
Knowledge in search engine technology, e.g. Solr/Lucene, ElasticSearch, Jena or Virtuoso is a plus
An open mind to relate to the requirements of psychological experts and users, with the confidence to make own,
informed suggestions for interface design
Independent working style
Project management skills
Good communications skills and the ability to explain technical issues to nontechnical audiences
Good command of written and spoken English

optional qualifications:

Fluency in Java (possibly relevant for search engine backend) is a plus
Knowledge of package management und code versioning (Git)
Basic proficiency with the Linux and Unix command line
