The Research Unit “ Relativity in Social Cognition“ at the University of Cologne

The postdoctoral position is offered within the Research U nit on “Relativity in Social
Cognition: Antecedents and Consequences of Comparative Thinking” funded by the
German Science Foundation (DFG ; FOR 2150 ). Th e R esearch Unit investigates how
comparative thinking interacts with evaluations, self -control, morality, social hierarchy
and cooperation . T he postdoc will be involved in research that bridges some of the se
specific research interests.
The position is funde d for two years. The anticipated starting date is January 2019.
Salaries are competitive on an international level for post -docs.
The Research Unit is part of the Social Cognition Center Cologne ( SoCCCo ), which
provides a dynamic research environment for the psychological study of human social
behavior. SoCCCo brings together ten research groups at the University of Cologne
that study a broad array of topics in social cognition, ranging from the dynamics of self -
control to the ubiquity of social comparison and the intricacies of processing evaluative
information . The University of Cologne and SoCCCo offer excellent research facilities
and a dynamic research environment, while Cologne is a vibrant cosmopol itan city that
offers a rich cultural life and excellent infrastructure.
The position is open to candidates who have recently earned their Ph.D. or doctoral
degree or who are expecti ng their degree in 2018 in any area of social psychology or
related areas .
Applicants should be fluent in English (spoken and written) as this is the working
language. The ability to speak German is helpful but not necessary.
