Postdoc Digitale Prädiktoren von Suizidalität

At the University of Zurich, we are looking for a
Postdoc in a Swiss National Science Foundation - funded project on
predicting suicidal ideation
(starting October 2019 or as soon as the position can be filled for 12 months, with a possibility of extension )
in a Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) -funded project on the prediction of suicidal ideation in
vulnerable populations (PIs: Prof Birgit Kleim, Prof Urte Scholz, Psychology Department, University of
Zurich). The project is based at the chair of Experimental Psychopathology and Psychotherapy
(Head: Prof Birgit Kleim) at the University Zurich and the Psychiatric Univers ity Hospital and funded
under the SNF’s Digital Lives Initiative.
Aim is to examine the contribution of predictors derived from digital technology to forecast suicidal
ideation. The project investigates this in one of the most vulnerable populations, psychiatric patients
post -discharge from an inpatient psychiatry stay and aims to develop predictive algorithms that can
later guide intervention efforts. To this end, we use information obtained through individuals’
smartphones. Specifically, in the study that is already running , patients after discharge are asked to
report on several relevant psychological variables on their smartphones multiple times a day for 4
consecutive weeks. During this time, passive sensing information will be derived and co llecte d from
their smartphones (for instance their walking time, general activity, and social connectedness ). The
postdoc will manage and coordinate data -collection, analyze the resulting data (using machine
learning techniques to predict suicidal ideation and psychiatric hospital readmission ), writing
manuscripts , interacting with international collaborator s and the scientific community . He/she will be
actively invol ved in planning the next steps and continuation projects.
What we expect from you
• PhD in clinical psychology, cognitive neurosc ience or related field (psychological, biological,
biomedical, or computer sciences)
• Excellent communication qualities to interact with hospital staff and patients , clinical skills
would be useful for interacting with patients
• Pronounced interest in novel digital methods (passive mobile sensing, other smartphone -
based assessments and their analyses) and their application to psychopathology and
intervention
• Good statistical and/or computational skills (machine learning would be a plus) , for instance in
R
• Experience in scientific publishing
• Experience and interest in training and supervising junior scientists
• Fluent English and/or German
What we offer
• Work in a friendly, interdisciplinary, international, and translational research team
