Postdoctoral Researcher (full time, fixed term 3 years)
The RWTH Aachen University is in the process to become an
integrated, interdisciplinary technical university while being one
of Germany's Universities of Excellence. It provides an exciting
research location for psychologists by joining a group of
ambitious colleagues at the Institute of Psychology (IfP) and at
the same time having the opportunity to conduct inter- and
transdisciplinary research with researchers from technical
disciplines.
At the newly established Research and Teaching Area of Psychology with a Focus on Auditory
Cognition (Prof. Dr. Sabine Schlittmeier) we investigate auditory cognition, noise effects and
cognitive ergonomics at the interdisciplinary research interface of psychology, technology and
environment. Our experimental studies contribute to basic and applied research questions,
ranging from cognitive-psychological modelling to application-related questions and

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher. A strong candidate would have expertise in
experimental research in one of the following research areas auditory cognition, noise effects,
cognitive ergonomics or environmental psychology – and an interest in learning about the
others. A completed PhD/doctorate/or equivalent and publication experience in scientific, peer-
reviewed journals are mandatory. Preferably the Master’s degree or the PhD focused on
psychology; studies of engineering, informatics or physics are an asset. Applicants with
knowledge of and experience with experimental paradigms in cognitive psychology, survey
methods, eyetracking and/or advanced statistical procedures (e.g. multi-level analysis) are
most welcome. The willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation with acoustics, engineering
sciences and informatics is a prerequisite. Programming skills in Python/PsychoPy, other
experimental software or Matlab are advantageous.
Your duties are:
Support of ongoing research projects and assistance in the acquisition of new research
projects
Publication of research projects and results in scientific, peer-reviewed journals,
at expert meetings, national and international conferences
Assistance with the supervision of doctoral students
Supervision of research interns, psychological and interdisciplinary bachelor and
master theses, e.g. together with acoustics and/or computer science
The full-time position is to be filled as soon as possible and is limited to three years, if no former
times of qualification must be considered. Salary depends on experience and is based on
German regulations (TVL-13; 100%). The position is also available as part-time employment
