The DFG Research Training Group “Statistical Modeling in Psychology” (SMiP) offers

1 Post Doc Position (100% TV-L E13)

from January 2020 (or starting as soon as possible thereafter) until March 2022. Pending on the funding of the German Research Foundation (DFG), the position can be extended for another 4.5 years until September 2026.

The SMiP group is a transregional collaboration of twelve renowned behavioral
researchers from the University of Mannheim, University of Freiburg, Heidelberg
University, University of Koblenz-Landau at Landau, and University of Tübingen. The
SMiP research and training program combines statistical innovations and substantive
research in different areas of psychology by using and advancing cutting-edge
mathematical and psychometric methods. For further information, see http://smip.uni-mannheim.de/

The Post Doc position is part of the SMiP group with a particular focus on applications
and recent advancements in Bayesian statistical modeling. Applicants should have
completed a successful Ph.D. project involving the application or development of
innovative estimation and testing techniques. These techniques may include, for example, Bayesian parameter estimation and hypothesis testing, machine learning methods, likelihood-free parameter estimation, or sequential testing. The successful candidate should be experienced in data analysis with state-of-the-art software and should have published in renowned international journals of psychology.

The SMiP group provides

  • Curriculum vitae (incl. list of publications, grants, research awards, conference presentations, skills in research methods and statistical analyses, experience abroad, teaching experience if applicable),
  • Letter of motivation,
  • Copy of Master's degree und Ph.D. (incl. grade transcripts),
  • Writing sample of recent work (e.g., doctoral dissertation, paper, or published article), and
  • Two references (i.e., names and addresses of researchers who provide a letter of recommendation on request).
