PhD Stelle (65%) in interdisziplinärem Projekt zu kollektivem Verhalten und sozialem Lernen
Starting preference is early 2023. The position is initially limited to three years.
The University of Konstanz is one of eleven Universities of Excellence in Germany. Since 2007 it has been successful in the German Excellence Initiative and its follow-up programme, the Excellence Strategy.
The PhD position will be part of the Cluster of Excellence “Centre for the Advanced Study of Collective Behaviour” (CASCB) at the University of Konstanz, which investigates the collective behaviour and associated patterns in humans and animals in an unprecedented interdisciplinary approach by developing an innovative range of quantitative methods and novel technologies. The position will be embedded into the new starting project entitled “Understanding and facilitating positive group dynamics in education”. This project aims to increase our understanding of processes underlying group dynamics in educational contexts, which will provide novel insights under which conditions positive peer group dynamics emerge and how they can be facilitated. For this purpose, we integrate theories and methods from developmental and educational science, neuroscience, animal science, social network science and computational science, whereby our methodological approaches involve non-marker based tracking tools by using multiple synchronized cameras to record children’s social interactions (analyzed with deep learning based algorithms), heart-rate-variability indices as physiological markers during social interactions, event-based social network analyses (e.g. goldfish package in R), and survey-based assessments with children (with a strong quantitative focus).
