PhD Position (Project on Motivated Cognition) at the University of Zurich
We are seeking applications for PhD position in the project “Remembering gain- and loss-related
intentions”, which is funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and investigates the impact
of motivational gain- and loss incentives on cognition across adulthood (PI: Dr. Sebastian Horn).
The PhD student will be part of the team “Developmental Psychology: Adulthood”
(https://www.psychology.uzh.ch/en/areas/dev/lifespan.html) at the Department of Psychology at
the University of Zurich, Switzerland.
The PhD position is funded for three years (salary according to cantonal requirements starting at
CHF 47’040 in the 1st year to 50’040 CHF in the 3rd year). The University of Zurich and the Dept.
of Psychology are internationally oriented and provide an excellent research environment and
doctoral program. Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and repeatedly receives top positions in
worldwide quality-of-living rankings.
A competitive applicant has a master’s degree in Psychology or a related field (e.g., Cognitive
Science) and strong research interests in experimental research on memory and decision making
across adulthood. The project focuses on the impact of (monetary) gains and losses on memory
and decision making across adulthood.
Requirements
• Master’s degree in Psychology or related field
• Proficient oral and writing skills in English and in German
• Knowledge in statistical data analysis and experience with coding (e.g., using R)
• Strong research interests in memory, decision making, cognitive aging, and data analysis
• Some experience with experimental data collection
• Good communication skills to work in a team; flexibility; ability to work independently and on
your own initiative

Promotionsstelle (Motivierte Kognition) in Zürich
Im Projekt «Remembering gain- and loss-related intentions» (Leitung: Dr. Sebastian Horn) suchen
wir eine/n Doktorandin/en. Das Projekt, finanziert vom Schweizerischen Nationalfonds, untersucht
den Einfluss von motivationalen Gewinn- und Verlustanreizen auf die Kognition im
Erwachsenenalter. Der/die Doktorand/in ist in das Team «Entwicklungspsychologie:
Erwachsenenalter» (https://www.psychology.uzh.ch/en/areas/dev/lifespan.html) am
Psychologischen Institut der Universität Zürich, Schweiz, eingebunden.
Die Doktorandenstelle ist für drei Jahre finanziert (das Salär beträgt nach kantonalen Vorgaben
CHF 47'040 im 1. Jahr bis 50'040 CHF im 3. Jahr). Die Universität Zürich und das Psychologische
Institut sind stark international ausgerichtet und bieten ein hervorragendes Doktoratsprogramm
an.
Der/die Bewerber/in sollte einen Master-Abschluss in Psychologie oder einem verwandten
Fachgebiet (z.B. Kognitionswissenschaften) und ein starkes Interesse an experimenteller
Forschung im Bereich Gedächtnis und Entscheidungsfindung haben. Das Projekt konzentriert sich
auf den Einfluss von (monetären) Gewinnen und Verlusten auf Gedächtnis und
Entscheidungsfindung im Erwachsenenalter.
Anforderungen
• Master-Abschluss in Psychologie oder einem verwandten Fachgebiet
• Hervorragende Englisch- und Deutschkenntnisse (mündlich und schriftlich)
• Kenntnisse in statistischer Datenanalyse und Programmiererfahrung (z.B. mit R)
• Starke Forschungsinteressen an: Gedächtnis, Entscheidungsfindung, kognitives Altern,
Datenanalyse
• Erfahrung mit experimenteller Datenerhebung
• Gute Kommunikationsfähigkeit für teamorientiertes Arbeiten; Flexibilität; Fähigkeit,
selbstständig und eigenverantwortlich zu arbeiten
