We are seeking a highly motivated and talented candidate for a PhD position as part of a
newly founded Emmy Noether research group on self -contro l in value -based decisions
(group leader: Alexander Soutschek) . The group is located at the psychology department ,
chair of general and experimental psychology, at the Ludwig Maximil ians University Munich.
The goal of the research group is to determine the neuro -cognitive mechanisms underlying
self -control in both individual and social value -based decisions , employing a broad range of
behavio ral and neuroscientific (e.g., TMS, tDCS, or fMRI) methods .

Your t asks
• Planning and conduction of research proje cts on the neuro -cognitive foundations of
human decision making (inc luding experiment design, data acquisition, analysis , and
interpretation of behavioral and neural data)
• Presentation of results (publication or conferences)

Requirements and Skills
• Excellent master in psychology, cognitive science, biology, economics , or in an equivalent
discipline
• Great interest in deci sion neuroscience research
• Experience in statistical analyses, ideally also programming skills in Matlab
• Experience in neuroscientific methods (TMS, tDCS, or fMRI) or the willingness to learn
these methods
• High motivation and interest in interdisciplinar y collaboration in an international team

The position is available from October 2019 or later. The position is initially available for 2
years (salary according to German TV -L E13, 65%) , with option for an extension of 1 more
