The University of Luxembourg seeks to hire outstanding researchers within its Faculty of Language and Litera-
ture, Humanities, Arts and Education

1 position as PhD (100%)

within the research group Computer - Based Assessment ( Prof. Dr. Samuel Greiff ; uni.lu/eccs/cba ; face-
book.com/21cba ). The post will be offered on a term contract (14 month, renewable up to 3 years) , available to
start at 1

T he CBA research group aims at developing and validating innovative, computer - based assessment instruments
for cross - curricular abilities (e.g., Complex Problem Solving, Collaboration, Domain - Specific Problem Solving).
T he open position will mainly focus on how 21
st
century skills (i.e., complex problem - solving) can be trained.
This includes the development, validation and implementation of frameworks of how students’ problem - solving
competence can be fostered and the use of process data to better understand the ir problem - solving approach . The
position allows for developing own research interests and to pursue a PhD in this area. The research group is
interdisciplinary located within the fields of Educational and Personality Psychology, applied Psychometrics,
Cognitive Science, Differential Psychology , Computer Science, and Education.

Responsibilities :
• Developing and conducting innovative research in the field of empirical educational research, interven-
tion studies, and computer - based assessment
• Specifically, developing and validating frameworks of how students’ problem - solving competence can
be fostered , leveraging on the experiences in empirical educational and intervention studies
• Self - contained research targeted at receiving a PhD in Psychology (cumulative; i.e. based on peer - re-
viewed publications)
• National and international data collection and manage ment at participating institutions
• Communicating with partners and independent instruction of student assistants
• Administrative responsibilities within the project and the research group
• Publications ( in English - speaking peer reviewed journals and at scientific conferences)
Profile :
• Excellent Masters degree (or equivalent) in Psychology or a related field , ideally with a strong back-
ground in educational psychology, educational or learning science s
• Good knowledge of and interest in quantitative methods and test theory (e.g., SPSS, MPlus, R, Con-
Quest), willingness to learn new methods
• Willing ness to travel internati onally and excellent English in speech and writing. Knowledge of addi-
tional foreign language s is welcome but not mandatory
• Involvement into teaching to a very limited extent
• Ability to work independently, strong personal commitment, ability to work under pressure, communi-
cation & cooperation skills, administrative skills, creativity, determination
• Last but not least enthusiasm about, above ave rage commitment for, and enjoyment in research and sci-
ence
