Developmental Neuroscience (Prof. Shu-Chen Li, Ph.D.) invites applications for a position as
Research Associate / PhD Student
in the field: Developmental Social Neuroscience
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting on March 1, 2020. The position entails 65% of the fulltime weekly hours and is fixed-term
for 3 years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act
(Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further
academic qualification (e.g. PhD).
The successful applicant will work with Dr. Andrea Reiter, Prof. Shu-Chen Li, Ph.D und Prof. Dr.
Philipp Kanske on the newly funded DFG-project “Deciphering cognitive and affective neural
correlates of prosocial decision making in adult development”.
Tasks: The project is a collaboration between the Chair of Lifespan Developmental Neuroscience
and the Chair of Clinical Psychology and Behavioural Neuroscience. Using functional and structural
MRI as well as experimental tasks, we aim to investigate the cognitive and affective (i.e., Theory of
Mind and Empathy) neural correlates of prosocial decision-making across the adult lifespan. The
successful candidate will have the opportunity to take part in all phases of the project, including
data collection and analyses, presentation of results at conferences and manuscript preparations.
Requirements: university degree (Diploma, Master) in Psychology, Cognitive/Affective
Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, computational Neuroscience, Machine Learning or related fields;
interest in (social) neuroscience and lifespan research. Candidates with experience in (f)MRI,
programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, R) or an interest in acquiring them are particularly encouraged
to apply.
The Faculty of Psychology offers an exciting and supportive multidisciplinary research environment
with ample opportunities for training and collaboration. The Chair of Lifespan Developmental
Neuroscience has one 64-channel electroencephalography (EEG) system with EEG cabin,
eyetracker systems, direct current stimulation (tDCS) systems, behavioral testing rooms as well as
access to a research-dedicated 3T MRI scanner and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
through the university’s Neuroimaging Centre. More information about our groups can be found
