The Faculty of Psychology and Spo rts Sciences of Johann -Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt, at t he
Chair of Cognitive Psychology II , is offering

one post -doctoral position (E13 TV -G-U, 100% full time employment )
or (alternatively)
two doctoral positions (E13 TV -G-U, 50% part -time employment)

at the earliest possible starting date and for the duration of three years.

The candidate /s will be expected to conduct research in the field of Prosocial Motivation and Moral Autonomy ,
to contribute to the teaching activities of the unit Cognitive Psychology II (Motivation, Emotion, Learning, and
Memory), and to work towards further academic qualification .

Tasks are:
• research at the level of the candidate’s qualification ,
• publication of results in intern ational, peer -reviewed journals ,
• 2 hrs per semester week (doctorate) or 4 hrs per semester week (post -doctorate) of teaching ,
• (minor) participation at administrative and examination duties .

Requirements are:
• an excellent Master ’s degree in Psychology or related discipline ,
• proficient English language s kills, both spoken and written ,
• outstanding analytical thinking and excellent presentation skills ,
• strong commitment to research and obvious research enthusiasm in basic Psychology ,
• methodological and/or programming skills for preparation of experiments and statistical analysis of empirical
data .

Additional requirements for the post -doctoral position are:
• completed or nearly completed PhD in the area of cognitive/ motivational/ social Psychology ,
• research excellence as indicated by international publication s,
• team building skills and leadership abilities to supe rvise students and PhD students ,
• capability and willingness to participate at research fund -raising activities .

Theoretical and technical training in Behavioural Economics or Social Neurosciences would be valuable , but are
not mandatory .

We are offering intensive guidance and collaboration in a flexible and highly reflective research and teaching
context , su pport ed by student assistants/ tutors . Our research goal is to understand the motivational and cognitive
basis of benevolent vs. punitive forms of altruism, of moral courage, moral judgment, and whistleblowing. We are
open to a broad range of research appr oaches , including behavioural paradigms (e.g., economic games),
qualitative methods (e.g., narrative interviews) , online -surveys a nd questionnaire development . We promote
interdisciplinary collaborations , participation at international conferences, and, if possi ble, research visits and
lectureships in foreign countries for further development of teaching and research skills .
