The Leibniz Institute for Psychology (ZPID) in Trier (Germany) is an internationally renowned research support organization in psychology and a member of the prestigious Leibniz Association.
To fulfill the ever-increasing research infrastructure needs expressed by researchers and psychology professionals, ZPID is in the process of strategic expansion directed at meeting these needs to become psychology’s one-stop research service center. Department Head Archiving and Publication Services (m/f/d)
(salary group TV-L E15 , full position, initially limited for 2 years)

Duties and functions:
ZPID’s infrastructure department “Archiving and Publication Services” offers several services aimed at the final steps of the research cycle. Twenty different types of digital psychological material are archived and published in PsychArchives. As a specialized facility the Research Data Center at ZPID mainly deals with topics around research data management. The PsychOpen GOLD program operated in this department supports publication of primary research in the field of psychology. You will implement ZPID’s roadmap aimed at becoming a one-stop research service center for Psychology together with the other ZPID departments and their heads. As a member of ZPID’s leadership board you contribute to developing ZPID’s general strategic vision/s further and regularly present new developments and products nationally and internationally. You will contribute to new developments and discussions in the academic self administration and professional bodies, e.g. by working within task forces, working groups, and similar structures. You will foster new product and service developments by analyzing the psychological scientific landscape and recognizing opportunities for infrastructure development early, often supported by acquiring third-party funding for prototypes.
We are looking for a person who has a strategic understanding of the open access and open science landscape and at the same time is able to develop and formalize structured, scalable approaches to the operational details of a scientific infrastructure department. To successfully develop and establish products and services in the highly profiled academic group targeted by ZPID you will need to be a strong, active communicator.
You will work closely with our product owners for the Research Data center at ZPID, PsychOpen GOLD and PsychArchives and lead a team of currently 13 persons within the department.
Your profile:
- PhD in Psychology
- An open mind to relate to the requirements of the psychological scientific community, with the confidence to make own, informed suggestions for product/service organization and strategy
- Proactive, results-oriented, and independent working style
- Project management skills
- Distinct communication, presentation, and proven team leadership skills
- Command of written and spoken German on a native level
- Very good command of written and spoken English
optional qualifications (please elaborate, if present):
- Affinity towards technical topics and/or programming
- Experience with the academic publishing process
- Experience with licensing and copyright questions
- Experience with data protection questions and research data legislation
- Experience with acquiring third-party funding
