RESEARCH ASSOCIATE FOR THE PROJECT
“Crossmodal Learning”
- SALARY LEVEL 13 TV-L -

The position in accordance with Section 28 subsection 3 of the Hamburg higher education act
(Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on 01 January 2020 or as soons as
possible.

This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor
contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed until 31
December 2023. The position calls for 65 % of standard work hours per week**.

Responsibilities:
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also
pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties:
The project is part of the SFB/Transregio "Crossmodal Learning" of the University of Hamburg
and four partner universities and research institutes in Beijing (China) and investigates
multisensory processing in healthy adults and children, particularly in the context of
multisensory space perception and recalibration. Within this project, two research associate
positions are available. This position will particularly focus on EEG studies in healthy adults,
with the goal of using these data for modeling. Specific duties comprise designing
experimental studies on multisensory processing, conducting research both in Germany and in
China, analyzing the acquired data (behavioral and electrophysiological) and publishing
research findings. Moreover, the PhD candidate will participate in and provide support for the
study program of the collaborative research center.

Requirements:
A university degree in a relevant field. We seek a PhD candidate with a background (Master or
equivalent degree) in psychology, neuroscience or related discipline and an interest in
multisensory research, cognitive modeling and virtual reality (VR) applications. The successful
candidate has experience in experimental psychology, high statistical competence and
programming knowledge (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python). Prior experience with EEG methods is
advantageous. High proficiency in English is mandatory.
