Research Focus
With this post-doc position, we aim to investigate the addiction potential of smartphone apps and other adaptive systems. The post-doc will have the possibility to develop and implement own research ideas. This may include, for example,

• monitoring social app usage on smartphones and predicting this behavior via trait self-control or personality,
• predicting momentary social app usage by mood or sleep (assessed via accelerative sensors),
• investigating the influence of social app usage on neurocognitive processes (assessed via neurocognitive tasks in daily life),
• using current theories from addiction research and testing those on smartphone addiction, etc.

The position is available at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) for 2+2 years,
ideally starting December 1st, 2021. time models. The post-doc will be mentored by Prof. Christoph Weinhardt (the head of the research training group) and Prof. Ulrich Ebner-Priemer.

You Provide
Successful candidates should have completed their PhD studies (or complete them very soon) in the fields of psychology, neuroscience, or related fields. We expect the post-doc to conduct self-determined research that integrates with the overarching goal of the research training group (KD2School) – which is the development of theories, models and technologies for adaptive systems that support economic decision-making. The post-doc is expected to foster cooperation with and between other research group members by integrating their research on addictive tendencies in smartphones and other adaptive systems.
